First Impressions on Battlefield Bad Company 2: Vietnam

Finally, Battlefield Bad Company 2 Vietnam is out today!

My first impressions of the DLC:
The weapons seem to be very fair, with the classes having their power spread out evenly, much like the Bad Company 2 multiplayer experience was in the modern combat maps. I like the overall look of the weapons, from the scopes that can be put on, to the sniper scope, being much easier to use, it feels like it could be used at long or medium range. With only 2 pistols to use, both being unlocked from the start, the secondary weapons aid in close quarters, and medium range combat. I managed to get my first kill on BFBC2:Vietnam with the M1911, a headshot, about 200 feet away.
The equipment, such as the heath packs on the medic, and ammo crates on the assault classes have undergone a makeover, going from green crates to a leather pouch and a metal box respectively, whilst the repair tool has transformed into a blowtorch and the defibrillators now a syringe. These are just cosmetic changes, with the tools still doing the same job as the originals.
The vehicles. What can I say about the vehicles on a Battlefield title. They drive like a dream. The Huey that can be piloted on 2 of the maps is amazing to fly, with a space for 4 passengers, made up of 2 gunners and 2 in the cargo hold, is great for overhead sweeps of the terrain using your missiles to bomb tanks and Tuk-Tuks underneath when they least expect it. The Tuk-Tuks are the equivalent of the quad-bikes on the maps, but with an allocation of three spots, 2 passengers and 1 driver allowing for very easy movement around the maps. Finally we come to the tanks. Personally, I’m not a tank kinda guy, I just keep getting blown up A LOT by them, mainly due to me running around in the open or trying to drive straight past them. The overall look of the tanks are smaller, but more vicious and threatening. A tip, as soon as you see them, get the hell out of the way of them, find cover, just don’t get spotted.
EA have made a big fuss over the music in this add-on, with you able to change the song in tanks, which from personal preference is Ride of the Valkyries, this music can also be heard on overhead radio speakers in the main bases, so they give a good atmosphere around the game.
Of the 5 maps on the DLC, only 4 are available until Operation Hastings is unlocked by 69 million actions are performed, spotting enemies, reloading team mates, healing and reviving, and repairing vehicles.

TL:DR; First Impressions, best multiplayer experience of the year, has just got better.

Here’s the release trailer from EA:

Rollo’s Halo Update 20/12/10

5 days away from Christmas now, and there’s at least 4 inches of snow on the ground so it’s gonna be a white christmas for us this year.
Recently, I’ve been playing a lot of Halo Reach’s Online Firefight playlist. I find that going in to a co-op game with 3 mates that you can communicate with is definitely the best way to play, and I’ve managed to rack up around 40,000 cR over the course of the weekend and today, so that Brigadier rank is gonna look sweet next to my Halo nameplate.

As I mentioned late last week, I’m gonna be posting the Halo trailers of the last decade, so here, is the Halo 2 trailer, enjoy the video, and stay tuned for Halo 3 tomorrow.

Halo 3 has been surpassed.

This time tomorrow, the odds of me racking up 435 hours on Halo Reach are pretty high. In a little over 3 months, I have managed to play more hours on Reach than I ever have on Halo 3, despite there being a 2 year cap since I first played a Halo title.
To mark this feat, over the course of the next week, the week leading up until Christmas, I’ll be posting the original trailers from Halo: Combat Evolved, to Halo Wars, and Halo Reach here, as I love them so much.
Here’s to another 434 hours on Halo!

Bulletstorm Epic Edition announced, with Gears of War 3 Beta.

Electronic Arts and Microsoft have teamed up to announce the “Epic Edition” of Bulletstorm, exclusively for Xbox 360, which includes guaranteed early access to the Gears of War 3 beta.

“Epic is poised to break new ground in 2011 with Gears of War 3 andBulletstorm,” said Dr. Michael Capps, president of Epic Games. “With these two highly anticipated triple-A experiences comes a unique opportunity to do something to really excite players, and that’s what we intend to accomplish with the support of Microsoft Game Studios and EA. This is for the shooter fans.”

The “Epic Edition”, which will retail at $59.99 USD, includes early access to the Gears of War 3 beta and more. It’ll give players 25,000 additional experience points when playing online and visual upgrades for their leash, Peace Maker Carbine, boots and armor.

Bulletstorm is to be released on the 22nd of February 2011 in North America, with Europe following suit with the release date of the 25th of February. I’ll leave you with this awesome execution of the Lancer Classic, in Gears of War 3.

The Wonders of the 360 S

Having had bad connection for a while, I thought that removing the ethernet cable going from the Hub to my brother’s Xbox would perhaps improve my connection to Xbox Live. 100Mb of Forza DLC last night took me over 10 minutes from “Confirm purchase” to “Play Now”. My connection definitely improved last night, with a 5 player race on Forza Motorsport 3 going smoothly, lag-free.
My brother gets in from school today, after walking home in the snow, turns the Xbox on, connects to Xbox Live, his connection seems to have improved aswell. For once, I’ll have to admit, wireless connection is a lot better than wired at the moment.
The Xbox 360 S’s wireless capabilities seemed pointless when they were announced to me, anyone who already has an Xbox 360 already had either and ethernet cable set up, or the wireless receiver ready. But with today, I find that it may be the best feature on the redesigned console, better than the new sleek look, the whisper-quiet disc reader, and drawer that goes “PING”.
I may have to invest in one of these machines….. How much is the Reach one these days?

A Homage to Halo: Combat Evolved.

Spartan E419 made this awesome screenshot. A homage to Combat Evolved here. I think that the Halo Reach campaign managed to capture the story very well. The despair of Reach as it was falling, and the words “Carter out” get me every time on the mission “Pillar of Autumn”. Possible spoilers ahead, but cmon, if you haven’t finished the campaign by now, I strongly urge you to.
