Welcome to DartMonkey360!

This is just a quick post to say that You Go Boom Now is going to have a new author on the team. DartMonkey360 will be posting reviews and other game content over the coming months, so the site will be back in action. He will be starting by posting his review on Sonic Generations which I think will be up tonight. I hope that this is the start of a more active YGBN.

Rollo: Blogging Evolved

Hey guys, I know that I had planned my write-up on DiRT and a first impressions on Fallout 3, but I when it came down to it, I felt like I didn’t have enough content to put up on either. I haven’t played DiRT as much as I would have hoped that’s for sure, and I haven’t even rebooted up Fallout since I first played it. I need to sit down one of these nights and really put a good hour or two into the story. But I thought I’d keep the readers of my blog the run down of what’s going on with me in the gaming world, so pardon the wall of text, but I’m blogging here.
Since my last update I’ve been playing a lot of Halo: Reach, Grifball matchmaking mainly to build up for the final. The Grifball team I captain in the European League, “Team Impact” missed out on the EUGBWL’11 Championship a few weekends back, losing 8-1 to “The Elite Spartans”. The first three rounds combined went on for 15 minutes with TES going 2-1 up into the 4th round before walking in the last 6 bomb plants consecutively. This is where my plug for the European Grifball League comes in. The European Grifball Summer League 2011 is scheduled to take place in late May, early June. You can head up over to grifball.com to sign up if you’re interested. I’ll also leave a click-able image in the bar over there, if you look over to the right of your screen, you should be able to see it. If you’re new to Grifball then the guys over at Grifball Hub have started to do some great new Grifball 101 videos. You can check out the video in the YouTube player here….

Other games I’ve been playing are Bulletstorm, that I can finally say I have completed the story, and what a great ending to a brilliantly conceived game. WWE All Stars has been high on my play list along with WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011. Both are two fantastic games, and I’ll be going to see a WWE house show at the LG Arena in Birmingham on Saturday for the Wrestlemania Revenge Tour. What I am looking forward to over the next 5 days is the Gears of War 3 beta, which I shall be playing from Day 1 thanks to my Bulletstorm Epic Edition early access. Remember to hit me up on Xbox Live to the gamertag “rollo 93” with a friend request so we can kick some Locust butt from here to Jacinto, and follow me on Twitter @rollo93 for updates on how many times I’ve been speared by a Retro Lancer.
Thanks for reading my first big blog, almost 500 words off the top of my head. Hope you’ve enjoyed a look into my 5am mind. ♥ rollo.

Two New Purchases

I finally managed to pick up two games yesterday that I’ve been meaning to get hold of for a long time, Colin McRae DiRT and Fallout 3. Now I’m not the biggest RPG fan of all time, that record is held n my opinion by Jack Knight. I haven’t gotten around to putting Fallout 3 into the Xbox disc tray yet, but I’ve only heard good things about the game and the Fallout series itself, so I have good hopes about it.
DiRT is a game that I know will enjoy. I have played DiRT 2 to death over the past 12 months, and loading up the original is just so different to the sequel. The best way I could describe it yesterday was a Forza Motorsport meets rally. The menus are slick and the only initial down point was the load menu times that it took to get into a race.
I’m gonna start a write up of my first impressions on DiRT and a full feature of DiRT 2, aswell as getting around 700+ Gamerscore on the first on, and then hopefully sink my teeth into Fallout 3 by the end of the day.
To see what games I’m playing check out my raptr or my twitter in the sidebar.

BRB Doing Campaign….again

If this doesn’t make you want to play Halo Reach, I don’t know what will

At least I’ll be having some short breaks in between the Grifball, Community Slayer and Firefight Arcade playlists that will be going live in around 75 minutes. Also on the cards for tonight is some guys at TrueAchievements.com have organised an achievement boosting session for the DiRT 2 achievement: “Rush Hour”.

BRB, owning the Covenant 😉

YGBN: Site Stats

The site stats from http://www.yougoboomnow.wordpress.com for the month of January 2011 were amazing. 316 page views. Much more than I ever expected I would get. So thanks to all the people who has viewed my pages over the start of 2011. I greatly appreciate it.

So what would you guys like to see in the future of You Go Boom Now?

A possible Domain change?

More features on multiplayer titles such as Assassin’s Creed Botherhood? Battlefield Bad Company 2? Halo Reach?

Single player games? Bulletstorm? Smackdown vs Raw 2011?

More videos?

If you’re just perusing the site feel free to stop and drop a comment in this article, so I can know what tickles your fancy, so to speak.

I look forward to any feedback, and here’s to February, the last month ’till I’m 18.

Peace 🙂

Ben’s Tip of the Day: Get the Bulletstorm Demo!

Trust me when I say this, get the Bulletstorm Demo. It is amazing. In my opinion it is the most fun I’ve had on a demo since, probably the PS1’s demo discs. The whole laid back feel that it has going for it gives it a great experience as you don’t feel restricted to a certain action, even though it is just showing you the ropes. The skill shots are brilliant, with the variety and actions that can be performed at a staggering amount. Add me on Xbox Live and send me a message so I can try and beat your high scores… if I haven’t already…..

I’m so glad I’ve got my Epic Edition pre-ordered now ^_^

PS. I’m back. More blog posts coming up this week.

Upcoming Feature. I’m after your feedback.

I’m going to be writing an article for a competition on a gaming website but I need to pick a topic to write about. The full article will also be posted on here, but I’m posting this to see if I can get some other ideas before I “put pen to paper”, so to speak. If you could vote in the poll below letting me know which topic you think would generate a better response, or if you have a better idea for an article that I could write about please comment at the foot of the page, I’d greatly appreciate it.

Here are the two topics I’ve come up with,

Thanks, ♥ rollo

Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2011!

After 2 weeks being at my Grandad’s for the Christmas period, I’m back, and it’s now 2011.

So, what have I been playing without the constant barrage of sound in my right ear? I’ll give you a quick run down, and be reviewing them in the weeks to come.

Guitar Hero (GH5 & GH:WoR)

Where do I start with these two games What a brilliant franchise Guitar Hero is. It’s just so simple to pick up these games and know exactly what to do.
Warriors of Rock gives a great soundtrack, from KISS to Slipknot, which suits my musical tastes quite nicely in all honesty but the main time I’ve spent on either Guitar Hero is on WoR’s Quest Mode. I’ve been mainly playing through, and managed to pick up the original Rock Band drum-kit so there’s just me and my brother playing away, in between the sound of the “click click click” of my guitar controller and him tapping away on the drums. We do manage to 5 Star the occasional song, now and again. All in all, both are great games.

Madden NFL ’11

Every time I pick up a Madden NFL game I find myself more immersed in the experience than I do in the FIFA games. Which is wrong, seeing as I should find my national sport more entertaining to simulate than the guys across the pond’s. But nevertheless the game is a worthy successor to continue the Madden NFL lineage, with the added Gameflow and Ultimate Team, it’s now the greatest American football game of all time.

Forza Motorsport 3

I’ve finally managed to 1000/1000 Gamerscore this game, just short of the 250 hour mark. This triumph is partly shared with the AI and the hire driver feature that, like I did, can be so easily exploited to allow a much more relaxed approach to completing the game. Plus, there’s nothing like rebelling and driving a Delorean at 90MPH and staying on the road.

Microsoft Kinect (Kinect Adventures & Kinect Hub)

Having only seeing this device when I was at the Eurogamer Expo in Earls Court last Autumn, I had no idea how well the Kinect would measure up to all the hype that it was receiving. I’m glad to say that it measures up amazingly. The sensitivity is perfect and having only used the Hub and the in boxed Kinect Adventures it is definitely the future of gaming. I look forward to being able to pick up either Joyride or Kinect Sports, to test the limits of the sensor.

Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood

This has to be my favourite game of the last year. I know in an earlier post of mine I said that Bad Company 2 was my GOTY. Brotherhood has taken it’s rightful spot as my Game of the Year 2010. The single player is spot on in terms of dialogue and action. The story is progressing a steady pace where I am at the moment. The multiplayer is possibly my favourite multiplayer experience, even going as far as say surpassing Halo 3. I had a high expectation for the this game after playing it at Eurogamer Expo, and this has blown my expectations away as far as I can see. I can’t wait to review this game.

Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.

“So you did miss me.” Cortana, Halo.
